Lightpath by yenna-photo Lightpath by yenna-photo
I had so much trouble choosing which of these to post. There were good and bad things about each one. The one bad thing they all had in common is that there's not enough snow in the forest. So I didn't get that really pretty snowy path and no random branches -look. This is the suckiest winter I remember ever. The weather is pretty warm, it'll be above freezing next week again and there's so little snow. I will lose it if we don't get at least one huge snowstorm this winter. Since the whole winter up till now has pretty much been the kind of weather I loathe: rainy, dank, dark and warm. Well, I like dark but not when it's warm and rainy. I like dark when it's cold and there's lovely glittering snow everywhere. :/

Anyway, if we get more snow at some point, I'll try this again. If not, I'll have to wait 'till next winter. The editing is kind of crappy, but I was dumb and didn't realize to shoot RAW, so my options were kind of limited. And I don't have an external flash of any kind or outdoor lighting options so...

You just need to move where I live. We've had our worst winter in 30 years with ample snowstorms. People are starting to ask if winter will ever end.

Where to dou live? But yeah, the weather is messed up. Places that shouldn't have insane winters do, and other places that should, don't. I'm pretty sure some other place has gotten our winter. Finland is supposed to be cold and snowy in winter. :/ We had maybe 6 weeks of snow altogether, while usually we have it from Nov-Dec to April. This time it's been spring like for a month already. I should've travelled to lapland this winter or something, might not have been as depressing.

However, this means I get to skip the season I despise: early spring, when it's wet and slushy while the snows take ages to melt. We don't have any snows to melt, so win. xD

I live in Minnesota (USA). We have long freezing winters every year but this year has been worse than normal. We've been having more snowstorms than usual (we had one a few days ago, actually) and the temperatures have been more extreme than we're used to. About a week ago, during one of this year's many snowstorms, there was a 64 car pileup on the highway. And earlier this winter, there was a 55 car crash not far from my work--all because the snow was coming down so heavily you couldn't see more than a few feet in front of you. I actually drove right past the 64 car crash as it was happening and I didn't even know it; I just barely missed the cars by pure luck. I heard about the crash later that day on the radio.

Although, I heard it's supposed to be warming up over the next week or so. The snow might even have melted by Easter. Unless of course we decide to have another snowstorm. In Minnesota, you just never know.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure you guys have our regular winter now. I remember last year there were huge chain crashes in the southern Finland because of almost zero visibility snowstorms. I think the previous two winters have been exceptionally snowy and then we get this warm winter that's breaking records. I've never seen this snow-free thing at these latitudes before. It's something that sometimes happens in the southern parts, but I live in mid-Finland and we've never had a winter this warm (as long as I've lived). =__=; I really hope this isn't a recurring thing... I really want to have all seasons propely because that is the advantage of living this up north (I lived in Thailand for a while and that got so boring).

It sounds like we do. I'd gladly give you your winter back. I like winter but this one's been a bit extreme.
I hope it's not a reoccurring thing as well. It reminds me of a few end-of-the-world movies I've seen. First the weather gets messed up and then everything goes straight to Hell. Hopefully this is just a once in a lifetime accident but if not I wonder if it'll get anyone to actually do anything? People have been talking about global warming for a long time but at least in America a huge percent of the population is in denial, still preaching that we're the greatest of the great and there isn't anything we can do wrong (sorry, I'm a bit antipatriotic).
Having grown up in a place with four distinct seasons, I can definitely relate to the weather getting boring without them but I think living in Thailand would be fun. Then again, I think living most places would be fun. I love traveling.

Are you kidding! It looks SO much cooler with the little undergrowth coming out of the snow, I think it fits well with her wavy uneven dress. If her get up was like super slick and sharp then I would say it went with smooth untouched snow. Its really really cool like this, I loved it.

I'm glad you think so. The problem with the random branches is that you can't see the path I made in the snow at all. If it had just been pure snow, you could see the path trailing out there and the candles lighting it on both sides. Some day I'll do it properly...

I'd be happy to ship you some of our lovely, glittering snow. We are over-supplied and I'm frankly sick of the stuff ;)

Lovely work, though...

Too bad our weather sucks right now. Even if someone shared, it'd melt away. Usually mid-Finland is pretty cold but right now we're right inbetween the warm and cold areas. The past two winters we've had record breaking amounts of snow but this winter we have record breakingly little of it. Why does it always have to be either or. :/ Our summers are also record breakingly hot or rainy and we get these horrible heat waves that seriously belong in the tropics, not in Finland. /weather rant.

There may not have been as much snow as you wanted, but you still took a great picture! The dolls are positioned well, as if they are in the middle of a story. And it really has a great atmosphere as well :3

Amazing picture and setting. My mind runs away with the story to this picture instantly. Those lights make a hell of a difference to the atmosphere. Lovely idea!

This is a gorgeous shot! What an atmosphere it has... I like how you used the lanterns/candles to bring light to the shot, also I like how the clothes fit to the surroundings. Beautiful colours!
Also I know the pain of taking some photos and only realizing afterwards that you didn't shoot RAW... It's a nightmare. >_>

Thanks. I do wish the candles would lit the scene better though, or that I'd have some other sort of external light source that would light the whole thing without being too obvious... Next time I'll remember to shoot RAW, yes...
